Not Accurate Did several test still NOT ACCURATE
|
Comment:
I have had this product mounted to the top of a perfectly level pergola. No obstructions within 50 yards. I suspected that it was not accurate so I tested the product by mounting 'two' tube type rainfall gauges right next to it. The tube gauges both showed 0.50" meanwhile the acurite 00614 self emptying raingauge showed 0.12"...still not satisfied I changed the batteries, I then detached the top porting 'rain collecting bucket'. Here I manually moved the rainfall 'tipping buckets' 50 times...each tip should be 0.02" so I should have a total of 1.00"...came in the house waaalaaa the gauge said 0.42"....so I went back outside did it again 50 times...again hoping for a 1.00" total....instead I got 0.46"...It only a $20-30 product but I have that sinking feeling in my gut that I just wasted $20-30...spare yourself the pain and look elsewhere for a rain gauge....and at last I did one more test....
I calculated that since the rain gauge had a 6" opening....therefor it had a radius of 3 "
1" of liquid in a cylinder with a radius of 3" should be a volume of 28.2857 cubic inches which is equal to 463.519 ml....so knowing this I measured out roughly 463 milliliters in measuring cup and slowly drizzled the water into the opening of the rain gauge over a period of about 5 minutes...came back in the house hoping to see 1.00" or very near...instead 0.60" again proving that this product is extremely inaccurate....

Disappointed !!

Comment:
I am disappointed in this product. It is inaccurate. I have had to wait for rain to see if it worked and it only records about half the actual rain that has fallen. Too late to return it but I wouldn't recommend this product.

Simple basic raingauge
|
Comment:
I haven't had it long enough to say how well it will hold up. It was easy to set up and gets a good signal. It is very basic. You can see the last 24 hours rainfall and then a total that is up to you. You can clear it at any time. So you can't get any weekly or monthly reports. Seems great so far.

Great Gift for Dad
|
Comment:
I purchased this wireless rain gauge for my dad as a Christmas gift. Since neck surgery, he has been restricted to sitting in his recliner most of his waking hours. He has always been an outdoors kind of guy, and his old-school rain gauge had dry-rotted through the course of our drought here in Texas. The unit works great (since we have seen some showers lately) and the wireless reader makes it perfect for dad to "keep up" with the weather status outside.
It would have earned a 5 star rating except I feel like the mounting design lacks flexibility. Perhaps a way to mount it from the side (example: screw it to the fascia of the porch) would have save me from having to set a post in the middle of the yard. However, I used an old cedar fence post to make it seem more natural than just a treated 4x4 sticking up from the lawn.
My wife also suggests to the upgrade gods that a solar powered version would be a plus.
Overall, dad enjoys his new "toy" and we were pleased to find him something for Christmas that he will enjoy for a long time (As long as it rains once in a while, I guess!)
