       Stopped working after third use
    Comment:
I can't speak to the accuracy that others have commented on, however I am rather unhappy that the device stopped working after I used it for the third time. It is also worth noting that the device is not the most intuitive to use - however to be fair, I do not have many points of comparison.

I bought the l5cw040tx model a couple years ago. I like that is DOESN'T have all the preset meat categories as those are for beginners. All I wanted was a remote thermometer that I can set to any temperature that I need. This does exactly that. However it has pretty cheesy construction and the remote unit should be the bigger unit showing all the data not the stupid little belt clip unit that gives you no information as to progress other than an over temp alarm. I found that dogs like to chew on these things and they don't fare well.. now I'm looking for a different brand.. unfortunately most seem to have the preset meat categories and don't allow you to go to manual mode. Why is it that we american's can't think for ourselves?

I had a "fork" thermometer that worked well but decided I'd like this one because it has a probe and could stay in the meat while it grilled. Or, of course, I could poke it from time to time to check the temperature. It is far from accurate. I tried it with a steak and the steak was overdone. I tried it again and the same problem. I checked it and found it measures boiling water at 196 degrees. But the error is not linear - in other words, I can't simply say it's off by 16 degrees. That means experimenting to find what the real temperature is when it tells me it's 145 degrees. I don't think I should have to do that with a thermometer I bought and which says it is "acu-rite." Unless, of course, acu-rite wants to send me the steaks to experiment with.

Probably a good product, however I have not received yet and it has been almost a month. They shipped weather machine instead. Said they would ship thermometer, and a return box for the weather machine. That was 2 weeks ago, and I have still received neither.

       My grilling has improved!
    Comment:
This thermometer with probe has taken my grilling to a higher level. I am so confident when I cook that things will be safe and tender! My husband used to think I was terrible at the grill and I was. I was one that would overcook ... like a typical cartoon character! The only improvement I could see would be to have a wireless added to this set-up so I can go anywhere in the house/yard and know what is going on under the hood.
