The compact unit--which also mounts on a wall or sits unobtrusively on a tabletop or shelf--offers an indoor temperature range of 14 to 140 degrees F (-10 to 60 degrees C) and an outdoor range of -58 to 140 degrees F (-50 to 60 degrees C). As a result, you can instantly gauge whether to bring the plants inside during a cold spell, turn up the heat in the living room, or put on a jacket before taking a stroll. At the same time, the TX5000 includes an integral minimum/maximum memory function that records the high and low temperatures of the day. The values are available at the push of a button, with a second button clearing and resetting the memory on command.

The thermometer is remarkably easy to read--even from across the room--thanks to the two-line LCD display, which features pronounced digits that measure over half an inch tall. The LCD panel also offers a soft green LED backlight for nighttime viewing, with a three-second auto-off to preserve battery power. Foggy Screen

The screen is really foggy and hard to read. It's like the tech's at the factory spilled glue on it. The light is very dim and not much use. I've ordered two of these now. I returned the first one and Amazon paid the shipping on it. I'll probably return this one too.

*Edit* This one is going back too. In addition to the foggy screen it's back light is worthless.

Bare Wire

When I took it out of the package I noticed the 10ft wire was in a bundle and sections of the wire was stuck together. As I extended the wire for use, the places stuck together pulled the insulation off the wire and exposed bare wire in numerous places. It appears poor storage was the problem and the wire insulation melted together in a hot storage building. Also, the connection at the casing has a poor connection and gives false readings. I would return it but it's not worth the time and energy.
