Product Description They say it's not the heat, but the humidity. Well fret not, because the versatile Timex TX5100 electronic thermometer/hygrometer displays both at the same time. The compact unit--which sits unobtrusively on a desktop, table, or shelf--sports a three-line, see-through LCD panel that simultaneously shows the time, indoor temperature, and indoor humidity in digits over 0.34 inches tall. As a result, the device is ideal for greenhouses, saunas, humidors, homes with expensive art collections, and a host of other indoor locations. The temperature reading ranges from -58 all the way up to 158 degrees F (-50 to 70 degrees C), while the relative humidity is measured on a scale of 20 to 90 percent. The TX5100 also offers a number of comfort-related icons, including a happy face (for comfort) that appears when the temperature is between 68 and 78.8 degrees F and the humidity is between 40 and 70 percent. The wet icon, meanwhile, appears when the humidity is between 70 and 90 percent (as does the "not happy" face), while the dry icon shows up between 30 and 40 percent. Should the humidity dip or rise above the 20 to 90 percent measuring range, the TX5100 displays a Hi° or Lo° icon. In addition, the TX5100 features a minimum/maximum memory function that records the high and low temperatures and humidity levels of the day. The values are available at the push of a button, with a second button clearing and resetting the memory on command. And the unit's built-in clock is no slouch, either, with settings for 12-hour (with AM and PM) and 24-hour modes along with a daily alarm and an eight-minute snooze button. And should you prefer to view the month and day instead of the time, simply press the Mode button. Other details include a silver oval housing with a light green bezel surrounding the transparent LCD panel, a hide-way panel that conceals the pushbuttons, and an integral folding table stand that lets you angle the unit for optimal viewing. The TX5100, which comes with two preinstalled 1.5-volt button cell batteries, measures 2.5 by 3.5 by 0.81 inches (W x H x D) without the stand is backed by a one-year warranty. What's in the Box TX5100 thermometer/hygrometer, integral folding stand, two 1.5-volt batteries, user's manual.

Summary:
Don't like it

Comment:
A big disappointment. It doesn't register humidity in the lower ranges. I bought at the same time as a La Crosse WS-9400U. The LaCrosse tells me 37%. The Timex tells me Lo. I won't be buying any more Timex hygrometers.

Temp good, humidity not so good

Comment:
I like the size but the hydrometer portion is off by about 22%. So, essentially, it only works for temperature.

Comment:
we ordered several of these based on the description, we were disappointed and returned them, they did not perform as described and the numbers were difficult to see.

useful but cheap

Comment:
it is very useful during winter time when i need to monitor the humidity prior to turning on the humidifier

Summary:
can't read it
|
Comment:
the display is transparent with black lcd lettering & can only be seen from certain angles against a white background. I have a black desk, and the certain angles don't include angles I can see it from when sitting at my desk. I can just barely read it when sitting comfortably if I put it on a white piece of paper.
