Product Description They say it's not the heat, but the humidity. Well fret not, because the versatile Timex TX6140 weather station displays both at the same time, while also forecasting the weather, displaying the current barometric pressure, and showing the date and time. The compact unit--which mounts on a wall or sits unobtrusively on a desktop or shelf--sports a comprehensive LCD panel that measures just over 2 inches wide by 3 inches high. In the midst of the LCD panel, however, are a ton of informational details, including an hour and minute section with 0.62-inch-tall digits; a calendar section that shows the date and day of the week; an icon-based forecast section that predicts the day's weather; a barometric pressure graph with a trend gauge; and a slot for the indoor and outdoor temperature. It all adds up to a comprehensive virtual weatherman that's ideal for both professionals whose livelihood depends on the weather and outdoor enthusiasts wondering whether it's safe to head to the mountain. Design-wise, the TX6140 boasts a pearl-white housing with a dozen silver and black pushbuttons on the front panel. More significantly, the unit comes with a wireless remote sensor that transmits the outdoor temperature data from up to 100 feet away. Once the remote sensor is installed, the TX6140 reads the indoor temperature from 32 to 122 degrees F (0 to 50 degrees C), the outdoor temperature from -4 to 140 degrees F (-20 to 60 degrees C), and the relative humidity from 1 to 99 percent. (The hygrometer performs best between 40 and 70 percent relative humidity at ambient temperatures from 68 to 86 degrees F.) Should you be curious where the mercury topped out on a given day, you can turn to the TX6140's integral memory, which records the maximum and minimum values for the temperature and humidity. The values are available at the push of a button, with a second button clearing and resetting the memory on command. As a weather forecaster, the TX6140 displays any of five kinetic forecast icons--sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy, rainy, and heavy rain--based on the most recent barometric pressure trends. The predictions generally span the next 12 to 24 hours, cover an area within 18 to 30 miles, and are 70 to 75 percent accurate. The barometric pressure, meanwhile, is displayed numerically in your choice of inHg (inches of mercury) or mb (millibars). Add in a pressure history bar graph to the left--which shows how the relative pressure has changed over the past 12 hours--and you'll receive the most complete weather data short of tuning into the Weather Channel. The TX6140's built-in clock is no slouch, either. The radio-controlled clock is synchronized with the U.S. Atomic Clock, the official timekeeper of the U.S. government, three times a week. As a result, you'll never have to worry about being late to a meeting again. Complementing the clock is a single daily alarm with a five-minute snooze function. The mounting options for the main station stem from the integral table stand (for shelf or desk installation) and the built-in keyhole slot (for wall mounting). The remote sensor comes with its own tabletop stand, but rather than a keyhole slot, it includes a full wall-mount bracket that attaches via either screws or two-sided tape (both included). Note, however, that the remote sensor should not be exposed to direct sunlight and must be protected from rain, snow, and wind. Power requirements include four AAA batteries for the main unit and two AA batteries for the transmitter (not included), with alkaline batteries recommended in most cases. The TX6140's main station measures 3.75 by 7.62 by 1.38 inches (W x H x D), while the remote sensor checks in at 2.75 by 3.94 by 0.94 inches. The entire bundle is backed by a one-year factory warranty. What's in the Box Main station, wireless remote sensor, integral table stands for each unit, wall-mount bracket for sensor, mounting screws, two-sided tape, user's manual.

Nice Weather Station

Comment:
I bought this for my wife for Christmas, since she's interested in weather and is always checking the weather channel. I purchased the Timex because it offered a barometer with options for the barometric pressure, as well as charting. It's interesting to check the changes in the pressure as different weather events happen. We've been using it for about a month now and the forecast has been pretty accurate (suppossed to be for 12-24 hrs, I think).
Atomic clock is nice. We've had no problems so far. It's cool to check the min/max temps and humidity.
It took a little work to sync things when first starting, but since then it's been effortless.

Pretty good unit

Comment:
Mine was a pretty good unit though sometimes it would come up with a minimum that was impossible so I sold mine, now I miss it. I'd say
it's a middle range unit, that is it's not the cheapest but it's not
the best either.
Battery life was good.
