Need a quick, easy way to determine the indoor or outdoor temperature? Check out the Timex TX5050 electronic thermometer, a versatile suction cup unit that attaches on the inside or outside of any window or other nonporous surface. The compact unit can display either the indoor temperature (with a range of 32 to 122 degrees F) or the outdoor temperature (with a range of -4 to 158 degrees F), helping you gauge whether to bring the plants inside during a cold spell or put on a pair of shorts before taking a stroll. At the same time, the TX5050 includes an integral minimum/maximum memory function that records the high and low temperatures of the day. The values are available at the push of a button, with a second button clearing and resetting the memory on command.

The thermometer is easy to read from a variety of locations thanks to its gray-tinted see-through LCD panel, which displays the temperature in bold digits a full 1.1 inches tall. The transparent panel lets you view the display from either side of the window without contorting your body. Plus, you can set the TX5050 to automatically alternate between the two temperatures every two seconds--no buttons or other actions required. And if you prefer to read the temperature in Celsius, don't fret; simply press the recessed button on the back and you're ready to go.

The TX5050 comes with a wired, weather-resistant temperature probe (with a 10-foot cord) for gauging the outdoor temperature and runs on a single AAA battery (not included). The thermometer, which is ideal for any room in the house, measures 2.5 by 2.5 by 0.56 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty.

    Summary:
       Poor solder connections
    Comment:

Purchased this thermometer and it worked well for a day. Then segments of the display stopped working (as reported by others). I opened the case (four tiny screws) and discovered a ribbon cable with a dozen (or so) connections to a printed circuit board. Pushing on various connections at the end of the cable would light up the malfunctioning segments but not permanently. Soldering ribbon cable is very tricky (too much heat will melt the cable) and I was unsuccessful at restoring the broken connections. Finally threw the thermometer away and got the Oregon Scientific THT312, which is working great. I'm very disappointed at Timex quality control.

Broken out of the box (twice)
    Comment:
The first one I received was broken out of the box. The display showed missing segments from the digits. I returned it to Amazon for replacement and the replacement unit has the same malfunction. Neither unit had any signs of physical damage. After that I just returned it for refund and bought an Oregon Scientific unit which has been great.

    Comment:
Bought TWO of these thermometers from timex. Come packaged brand new as expected from amazon. What was not expected is that i would be completly disappointed in the quality control of this product.. Just like the other review by "jimbo" neither of my two thermomters worked, not displaying the LCD characters correctly, or at all. Tried several different new batteries with no luck.

       Digital thermometer
    Comment:
Thermometer can be read from across the room. It is used to monitor temp in a bird's cage, and does a marvelous job. It is lightweight, easy to attach, has a common battery, and the remote sensor is very responsive and easy to mount as well. It appears reasonably rugged, though it will not be subject to any form of abuse. A very good value for the money.

    Comment:
I bought two of these units and neither worked. I can understand if one item has a problem, but two? Obviously they either have no or completely ineffective quality control. Timex used to be a reliable product.
