Professional accuracy is now available with the Instant-Read Digital Thermometer from Outset. An on/off switch prolongs battery life, and another switch allows you to measure heat in F and Celsius temperature readings. The easy-to-read LCD face instantly displays temperatures from minus 40 to 302 degrees F, or minus 40 to 150 degrees Celsius. The black sleeve protects the stainless steel stem, and also displays standard temperatures.

Works well, reasonably fast. A little challenging to read if you have to stick it in flat foods (such as a hamburger patty). I'll probably get a 2nd thermometer with the readout parallel with the probe for flat foods.

I bought this on the 4-for-3 sale and have been very happy with it. We BBQ a lot and I am always worried that the meat isn't cooked thoroughly, so this gives me piece of mind. I do like the on/off switch which is great IF you remember to turn it off. I'm afraid that I leave it on more often that not, but luckily the battery continues to live. I think the other reviewer might have just received a faulty unit and could have returned it for a replacement instead of trashing it. I give this 5 stars because I can't think of anything I don't like about it.

Instant read...not quite, but close enough. it will take about 2-3 sec to get a final reading, works better if you insert in to the meat then turn it on. the controls are switchs and not buttons so there is less of a worry of accidentally turning it so battery life should last
