  • Product Description
Checking the plastic rain gauge oftentimes means a trip out to the garden, in the rain, and then a lot of record keeping. A great way to stay abreast of the garden's irrigation needs without getting wet, Oregon Scientific's wireless, remote rain gauge features a self-emptying rain cup that measures and then dumps collected rainfall. Nine-day memory and indoor/outdoor temperature readings help monitor precipitation and weather patterns over time. An automatic a wireless transmission range of up to 300 feet with the rain gauge and up to 100 feet for the thermometer means a lot less back-and-forth. The unit displays daily readings, 9-day histories, and total rainfall records. Rainfall measurements are shown in inches or millimeters. The gauge also features a high rainfall alarm, comes with two AA batteries for the gauge and two AAA batteries for the sensor. --Brian Olson

Oregon Scientific Long Range Rain Gauge
    Comment:
I am replacing my older Oregon Scientific long range gauge. The old one lasted about 5 years and worked perfectly until it died (possibly when a close lightning strike damaged some other electronic equipment, even burning through some 10 gauge wires). The distance was about 200 feet from sending unit to receiver, somewhat longer than the standard unit claims as range and well within the range of this unit.

Obviously I'm happy with the unit, I bought another one.

A word about Amazon. I failed to receive the first unit they sent (though UPS claimed to have delivered it - the curse of living rural, who knows where they delivered it). Amazon promptly sent another unit. Can't ask for service better than that!

    Comment:
I have had this model of rain gauge before. Unfortunately the outdoor water (rain)collector
finally rusted out and I needed a new one. Thank heavens the same model is still available.
I now have a double system. I can put the reporting stations in two places in the house.
Thanks for your great product. (My old one is about 5 years old)

       Worked less than a year
    Comment:
When this unit worked it was great. However, it only lasted for 10 months and stopped working. Kind of a high price for something to last less than a year.

       Really cool item!
    Comment:
This item works very well. To be able to monitor the temp and the rain fall is neat! To be able to track the rainfall and not have to go out and empty the rain gauge is something that really makes this item unique. The item arrived early then projected so that was a bonus as well!

       Great Idea - Poor Execution
    Comment:
My RGR-126 is very useful, when it works.
    Battery installation is unnecessarily tedious.
Unfortunately all data is immediately lost when changing batteries.
Just like other reviewers mentioned, the transmit/receive functions work sporadically. I thought it was batteries and tried alkaline/NiMH/Li types to no avail. OS also sells a line of professional weather stations, but they dropped the ball with this one. Pass this one and save your money. Better yet, save your sanity!!
