  • Product Description
Regardless of the local TV station's extensively trained weather caster, meteorology is an imperfect science. The natural world always finds a way to trump the carefully projected forecast, be it with a sudden shift in the winds, a drop in temperature, or an unexpected rain shower. Likewise, even when the meteorologist hits the mark, the temperature often varies from one neighborhood to the next. While Mother Nature will always surprise the meteorologists with unexpected conditions, at least homeowners have options for monitoring precise temperatures just outside the front door. Industry leader La Crosse Technology offers several such tools, including this wireless temperature station. The simple temperature station allows users to assess outdoor temperatures for weather-appropriate planning plan. It also keeps an eye on the indoor climate for energy efficiency and maximum comfort.

The temperature station receiver features an easy-to-read LCD screen, which relays the indoor and outdoor temperatures in Fahrenheit degrees and records the minimum and maximum readings. A TX6U sensor evaluates outdoor conditions and transmits information to the receiver from up to 80 feet at a 433.92MHz frequency. Transmission through walls reduces this range. While the sensor fares well in fog or mist, shelter it to prevent rain damage. The temperature system measures indoor temperatures ranging from +32 to +140 degrees F. The outdoor sensor registers temperatures ranging from -21.8 to +157.2 degrees F. The temperature station hangs or can stand upright on a tabletop. The outdoor sensor comes with a mounting hardware and a detachable stand. Two AAA alkaline batteries power the receiver, while two AA alkaline batteries run the sensor. Batteries are separately purchased and should be replaced annually. The weather station accommodates up to three outdoor sensors. This product is covered under a limited warranty. The receiver measures 3.85 by 2.44 inches with a 1-inch depth. The sensor is approximately 5 by 1.5 by 4/5 inches. This item weighs 7 ounces. --Jessica Reuling

       Does what it should do.

What I like most about this indoor/remote outdoor temperature gage is that it does exactly what I want, at a good price, and doesn't clutter its screen with data I don't want...like yet another clock that would need periodic resetting. I also like its tidy size and its black color which doesn't call attention to itself.

This kept on breaking on me. First the batteries wore out (after a month or two). Then the outdoor sensor died (I think because it got wet in the rain, but isn't an outdoor sensor supposed to be able to handle that?). Finally the indoor one died. I probably had it for less than two years. Not a big fan of this brand anymore...

       Wireless Temperature sensor system
    Comment:
I used to have a wired temperature sensor for a refridgerator that was not holding its temperature well. One kitchen renovation and refridgerator update later, I wanted to still track the temperature, but not have the wire exposed. This was a welcome replacement and has worked well for 3+ months. My twin (7 year old) boys also have a La Crosse clock which received these transmitter signals, so they are now able to see the temperature outside. This receiver handles three sesors, two of which are in use. The farthest distance between sensor and receiver is about 30 feet and passes through two wood framed walls. We are still thinking where to put a 3rd sensor. Setup was relatively easy, although I did have to pay attention to what sensor was activated 1st and 2nd. All in all this is working well and I would recommend it.

3 months and it dies. The outdoor sensor is not waterproof as stated in the description.
