This hygrometer is finished in antiqued copper, uses a 4.25 inch diameter dial face and is great for monitoring greenhouses, sunrooms or problem areas. Included is an outdoor swivel arm bracket for mounting at just the right angle, as well as an indoor mounting pin. Hygrometers measure the moisture content of the air to determine the relative humidity. Our mechanical hygrometers take advantage of a time-tested method in which a synthetic fiber expands as it absorbs moisture from the air. This expansion, in turn, moves the metal coil to which it is bonded. As the coil twists, the pointer moves up the scale. As the fiber dries, the coil contracts and the pointer reverses direction. Relative humidity ranging from 45 to 70 percent is generally considered to be comfortable. Use in combination with a humidifier or de-humidifier to maximize your comfort

I bought this in April '08, but didn't get it outside until May. When it was 88 degrees outside according to the car and a local bank, the thermometer read 110 degrees. I agree with another reviewer about the paper face. I didn't have mine long enough for it to warp, but it sure looked cheap and like it would warp one day. I returned mine and Amamzon only refunded $26. Not so good for a defective item. I'll amend this review if they decide to give me a full refund. I'm not at all convinced that this item is made by Conant. I think it's a fake.

Copper is lovely. The inside is some paper and has already started to warp either from heat or moisture. I should have hung it where it is not exposed to the weather. A good blast of wind makes it swivel away where I can't see it. Have to adjust it after a strong wind.

This is a compact thermometer that mounts easily and looks great. The scale goes much lower than needed in temperate climes, but all in all a very nice purchase. I will be buying another one for the kitchen window.
