It's a tall tale that works to suspend disbelief. Well developed characters pulled me into the story. I wanted to believe Ben's story; I found his character interesting in part because of his willingness to learn from others and how he viewed his place in the world. Victoria is interesting by being willing to consider what by her training, she shouldn't be willing to consider. It encourages introspection. I enjoyed reading the book and would recommend it to others.

In a compact volume, Patrick Gabridge manages to tell a long (and admittedly tall) story that resonates long after the book is closed on the final page. The volume seems larger than its narrative because so much is accomplished. The author's two central characters are engaging and well-written in this economy of words. Yes, they both stretch credulity, for different reasons, but no matter. I applaud the addition of the heroine's loving, eccentric, but somehow plausible parents. They figure significantly into the story and offer a touch of gentle comic relief. While Gabridge's two protagonists carry us through their personal storms with passion that matches Nature's own tornadic drama, we learn to care about them as much for the humanity they manifest as for their quirkiness and defiance of natural laws. Gabridge admirably handles two other jobs with just the right touch. He conveys the sense and science of weather, and he employs poetic restraint to a vivid description of weather's gruesome effects. One of the most sturdy of compliments one can make to an author is, I think, to say: You wrote characters into surreal situations that felt present and real, and I wanted to know what happens after the final word. I still do.

Patrick Gabridge's "Tornado Siren" is a fascinating book. I purchased it and while it took me a chapter or two to get "in the swing" of Mr. Gabridge's *style* I kept reading it, thankfully, to see how the plot played out. My wife picked up the book and became immediately engrossed. When she finished the book I asked her for her opinion. Her reply was remarkably succinct, "Awesome".

A complex and engaging book, making me nostalgic for the Midwest. . . I highly recommend picking up a copy, the character development alone is worth it, but the twists in the story make the reader question their own reality, and come out on the other side much richer! Great writing!
