Product Description Julie Tanaka lives on a sailboat in the Caribbean with her husband Hideo. He is away, delivering a sailboat to California and her daughter Meiko is visiting during a break in her college education. They are playing in their dinghy, zooming as fast as they can off the western coast of Trinidad, when they discover a body floating in the water. They hurry back to the marina, only to find the police waiting. However they are not there for the dead man, instead they inform Julie that her husband has been killed along with two known drug smugglers when the boat he was delivering blew up off the California coast. Before the women get a chance to digest this tragic information, DEA agent Bill Broxton shows up at their boat wanting to question Julie about her Japanese American husband. Julie is furious, sends him away. The police come back, then an attorney representing TYS, Trinidad Yacht Services shows up with papers that say the women have to leave the boat, as it's been confiscated because of debts owed the shipyard. Julie knows the papers are false, so she and Meiko sneak the boat out of the country. TYS is owned by German crooks who are in cahoots with the Salizar drug cartel. One of the ways they get their illegal goods into the United States is by hiding them on expensive yachts bound for Florida, but with Hideo dead and his wife and daughter not knowing about the drugs and having fled, they have no choice but to send a crew after them to try and get their cocaine back. However, they have an ace in the hole, because Julie and Meiko have taken Victor Drake aboard to help them get the boat away. Victor works for the Salizars, but he wants Meiko, so he does his best to sabatoge the boat. Broxton teams up with T-Bone Powers, a likable pirate, but a drug smuggler himself, and they go after the women to try and save the damsels in distress before the drug smugglers catch them. Meanwhile as the smugglers close on the women, Hurricane Darlene is speeding her way across the Atlantic. Bad guys behind, a hurricane in front, a saboteur on board and our heroines not very experienced sailors, but they learn fast as the skies darken and their options run out.

Comment:
Julie Tanaka, her daughter Meiko and friend Tammy Drake are in a rubber dinghy off the coast of Trinidad in the Caribbean when they find a body floating at sea. They motor back to the Yacht Club and Julie's sailboat home when they are greeted by policemen. At first Julie thinks they are there because of the body, but how could they have known? Answer, they couldn't have. They are there to inform her that her husband, who had been delivering a boat to the States, has been lost at sea.
Julie and Meiko are devastated. Then they get a visit from DEA agent Bill Broxton, who tells them Julie's husband is suspected of smuggling drugs into America. Then somebody tries to kill Broxton, then a lawyer representing a shipyard shows up with papers to reposs Julie's boat, claiming her husband owed the shipyard a ton of money.
Julie doesn't believe this, but recognizes the law will probably back up the local shipyard, so she and Meiko sail out of the country in the dead of night. And thus begins a thriller that kept me burning the midnight oil. It seems the shipyard people have hidden drugs aboard the sailboat and they want them back, so they hire some very bad people go after the two women. Broxton too is hot on their trail in this book that is filled with lots of action and some terrific sailboat chase scenes. I couldn't put it down. I loved the story, the people, the fast-paced writing, the action and the surprise ending.

A Real Sitting on the Edge of Your Seat Thriller

Comment:
I read this book in one evening, held captive by the events happening in the beginning and the hurricane I knew that was coming at the end. Not much of a mystery, a little one kind of, but more an action thriller that'll grab you right from the get go and keep you enthralled right up till the end.
The characters were well drawn and believable, the ending a surprise and the action tense. What more could you want in a thriller. This is really, sitting on the edge of your seat stuff.

Comment:
I thought this was a great book, but not a super book. That's why I hesitated and gave it 4 stars. The action and the characters were just great and the story was full of suspense. Of course you have the evil men and the women in trouble and then on top of that you have a very bad hurricane to boot. I read it non-stop and maybe it will keep you up till the weee hours also. It's a great story that you will remember long after you have finished reading the last page.

Hurricane is the kind of book that will keep you awake all night long burning the midnight oil. Julia Tanaka's husband has been murdered by cocaine smugglers. Now they are after Julie and her daughter Meiko. The smugglers are ruthless, killing a pair of women is nothing to them. Julie and Meiko leave Trinidad in the middle of the night on the sailboat Julie and her husband had been living on. In the morning the smugglers give chaise. Meanwhile, Hurricane Darlene is building out in the Atlantic, heading toward St. Martin, as are Julie and Meiko. The danger behind is My, but the danger in front just might be worse.
Bill Broxton, discredited DEA agent is also chasing the women. At first he thinks they are tied to the drug smugglers, now he knows better. He just wants to save their lives and he's allied himself with just about the most likeable marijuana smoking smuggler you'd ever want to meet. I've said it about another of Mr. Stewart's books, there is movie here. I really liked this book and I think you will too.
