Product Description
Issues of global warming continue to be relevant, and every day brings front-page stories about the weather, generating new research, raising even more questions and possible solutions. Storm Chaser is a mesmerizing look at some of the catastrophic consequences of our planet's increasing temperature, captured by an expert in the field. Through breathtaking photos, quotes, letters, and journal entries from climatologists, researchers, political leaders, spiritual advisors, and storm survivors. Storm Chaser chronicles photographer Jim Reed's most thrilling, beautiful, memorable, and dramatic adventures to date. From extraordinary tornadoes to historic hurricanes, remarkable floods, geomagnetic storms, and magnificent lightning, Reed captures not only the mercilessness of America's sometimes deadly weather, but also the magnificence and meaning behind the tempests. The hardcover edition of Storm Chaser received critical acclaim and wide media attention. The New York Times wrote "These are the images that demonstrate the heart of weather's primal draw, and that hold the power to make weather fanatics out of even those of us whose first instinct is to run." Repackaged as a paperback with 16 pages of new material, this revised edition of Storm Chaser provides even more incredible images and the astonishing stories behind them.

"Global Warming is Real"

Comment:
I had incorrectly assumed from the title that Mr. Reed was a meteorologist with a talent for capturing stunning weather-related images. I had hoped to glean some insights into the weather phenomena he photographs, or at least some information on the type of equipment and techniques he uses. While the photos in this book are stunning, I was not expecting it to be a vehicle for global warming advocacy. Reed's bibliography does include some useful websites, but sadly also points us to paranormal guru Art Bell for further reading, as well as to Leonardo DiCaprio's sophomoric documentary "11th Hour", Al Gore's much-discredited "An Inconvenient Truth" (see SPPI- Science and Public Policy Institute's 35 Inconvenient Truths), and Emmerich's "The Day After Tomorrow". For climate change-related science fiction, I much prefer Larry Niven's Fallen Angels or Michael Crichton's State of Fear. Nonetheless, Reed is a master at capturing dramatic images of weather events.

Comment:
I came to Storm Chaser via a science blog that showed several pictures with the kind of drama you see in the cover picture.
The four images displayable on Amazon are the only images I found interesting in the whole book. (Well maybe one or two more).
The white on black printing throughout is Wired magazine circa 1997.
The pictures in the book are often amazingly small.
Blow up the 4 images in the Amazon preview and put them in a PDF and be done.
