Comment:
I read "Cold River" after the German translation came out and after the TV movie had been shown. Once I had watched it, I had to read the book.
I even went to Cold River in the Adirondacks in 1994, but in order to get to the spot where the book takes place, one needs to ride on horseback (ask at Cold River Ranch, they offer horses).

That did lead me to read Harry Mazer's "The Island Keeper" (an even better wilderness book about a girl surviving all by herself on an island in a huge lake...Mazer wrote the book in 1981) which unfortunately never became a movie although one reader mentioned a movie, but when I checked us.imdb.com, Harry Mazer is not in their database.

"Snowbound" is another Harry Mazer book I can recommend to everybody who enjoyed "Cold River" and "The Island Keeper".
If you are interested in some other great wilderness book escapes, read Anne LaBastille's autobiographies "Woodswoman" and "Beyond Black Bear Lake".
The Canadian author Kathrene Pinkerton wrote some great wilderness books for kids and 3 autobiographies which I absolutely love and keep rereading!

I forgot the name of the author who wrote "My Side of the Mountain" (there are two sequels) which became an even better movie film.
And last, but not least there is Gary Paulsen who wrote two great books about Brian who survived an airplane crash and ended up being lost in the wilderness in winter (good books, good movie).

Two very different teens are forced to rely upon one another for their very survival when their car crashes in a remote area during a blizzard.

Fifteen-year-old Tony Laporte, the only son of a large, loving Italian family, has been thoroughly spoiled by the hardworking parents who want him to have everything they never could. Meanwhile, Cindy Reichert, a loner who is being raised by her widowed father, is accustomed to a more introspective life. Yet one afternoon when she decides to hitchhike and is picked up by Tony, both their lives change forever.

Mazer's novel, seemingly simple, also depicts the intricacies of human relationships -- as well as how easy it is to take the good things in life for granted.

I had to read this book for a school project and all fot he other students thought that it was boring. Personally I thinkt hat they are just saying that beucase it would be "uncool" to think that it was cool.I think that it is was a good book becauseit was based on the truth.

I would recommend this book to readers who are intersted in books that have to deal with outside, nature, with kids who experince being on their own with no parents. I think that this is more of a teenager's book because it has to deal with two teenagers who have problems that they are going through and they learn how life is like being alone in the wilderness with no one to help them.
