Walter makes his third appearance in yet another unapologetically silly picture book, this one dedicated to "everyone who's ever felt misjudged or misunderstood." The story begins when animal gas expert Professor Kompressor pays a visit to Walter's family, equipped with a contraption that looks like a cross between a vacuum cleaner and an old phonograph: "I understand your dog has a farting disorder," he says. At first it seems as if the professor's prescription of powders and potions is working, but one day, young Billy and Betty see Walter floating like a helium balloon over the trees, so full of pent-up gas he has become airborne. Unable to release his gas, the unfortunate dog floats over hill and dale for days and days. The formula for these books requires the much-maligned Walter to redeem his gaseous self by saving the day (he gasses out burglars in the first one and helps catch bank robbers in the second). Here, even more absurdly, he saves millions of butterflies from a freezing windstorm by letting rip a warm cloud of air that melts the frost off their wings. Colorful, crisp, almost three-dimensional art, generated with a digital painting and collage technique, gives the book a bizarre, sophisticated style that both complements and elevates the cheap laughs. (Ages 6 to 9) --Karin Snelson

Walter toots his way through another story
    Comment:
I think Walter the farting dog is one of those characters that you either like or can leave to others. Professor Kompressor comes to Walter's door and father lets him in. The professor has made a life long study of animal gas. Walter farts and the professor proclaims that his gas meter has the highest recordings he has ever taken...and 'what a remarkable animal.' The professor gives the family a potion to mix up for Walter. Father decides to add a bit more of this and a bit more of that. Walter blows up with unreleased farts and slowly ascends in the sky and floats around!

If your kids like Walter, they'll like this book.

We have a 5th grader with some reading difficulty and he loved this series of books. The series kept him laughing and interested and he worked his way through the words that challenged him. He was thrilled that he could read a whole book in one setting. We HIGHLY recommend this book series

       Another fun Walter book
    Comment:
I bought this book for my 2-year-old who already has the other Walter books. The novelty of the Walter series is really more entertaining to my husband, which is important when there's a bedtime story to be read every night. My husband hopes our child will choose this book at bedtime so he can giggle as he reads the story out loud.
